Misia Denéa : When did you start practicing yoga ?
Jocelyn Gordon:Officially in 1997 when I took my first yoga class – Jivamukti – in New York City.
Misia Denéa:When did you decide to fuse yoga and hooping?
JG: It happened on it’s own. I’ve been a lifelong lover and student of dance, massage and meditation. In 2008 the hoop came into my life. The hoop arrived while I was completing my a yoga therapy certification. I was also teaching yoga and had a thriving massage practice at a popular Washington, D.C. fitness center. This gave me access to the group fitness room. Organically and deliciously, I enjoyed daily two to three hour long hoop practices. This was happening at the same time that I was diving into yogic philosophy through The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. A year later, I became the Director of Teacher Training for a global hoop fitness brand. This gave me the opportunity to travel, train and certify others. I learned how much I love teaching, mentoring and training others on how to share information with different learning styles. In 2013, I launched the HoopYogini™ Teacher Training program as an in-person immersion (check out our summer trainings in Bali and Virginia). We just launched www.HoopYogini.com and a seven week, doctor approved online course – HoopYogini™ Connect To Your Power! . In September 2015, we introduce the 12 week online teacher training
Misia Denéa: You have a busy schedule that includes a lot of travel, how do you stay grounded and enjoy the benefits of being a wanderlust?
JG: Great question and I’m learning!!!! My daughter and I currently spend most of the year in Bali. It’s been great to travel to nearby countries – Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Australia. We now have a global network of yogi friends, so when we travel, we connect with our tribe. Seated meditation helps to anchor my mind and body. When I’m traveling in the States, I have to ensure a daily movement meditation practice. I’m learning how to schedule so there’s space for downtime, restoration and intimacy with my family and people I meet along the way.
Misia Denéa:How did you grow comfortable with becoming a conscious heart centered entrepreneur?
JG: My parents trail blazed in corporate America. Early on, I realized that path was not for me, however, my parents and grandparents were also entrepreneurs and they taught me how to be courageous. It is my intent to contribute to their legacy through right livlihood, sharing with the world that transformation can be fun!
As location freedom is important to me, I continue to create media – audio, video – and online offerings that support women in feeling empowered, connected and at ease in life.
Misia Denéa: What health & wellness advice do you have to offer to women of all ages ?
JG: Take care of yourself! Learn the sweet art of surrender. Give yourself permission to say no. Give yourself permission to let go. Our ability to relax to the flow is our greatest power. Dancing Forward!
